*MAREN'S STITCHES*
It's Alexa's birthday today. Tomorrow we are having a birthday party for her, but we figured we would take her, Trey, and Maren to do some bowling. Just so we do something special for her birthday. 5 minutes into bowling and it happened. Maren had picked up a bowling ball and started walking and tripped. Her head landed straight on top of the ball. I saw blood, but my first thought is that she bit the inside of her mouth or her tongue, b/c I could only see blood everywhere. Then I noticed her mouth was fine and it was coming from her chin. It was so scary. I hadn't seen either of my children ever bleed that much. We made the decision that we needed to go to the emergency room. Luckily Children's Mercy was close by. We ended up calling Angie to come up and stay with Alexa and Trey. As soon as she got there we took off.
During the wait for Angie we had the bowling alley manager approach us. Luckily Jay was able to talk to him and answer any questions, b/c I was a mess trying to calm Maren. They had to do a formal interview for insurance purposes. They also kept apologizing, even though nothing that they did caused it. Oh, and we got a ton of coupons.
Maren had been crying hysterically at the bowling alley, but after a little while in the car she seemed to calm down and be okay. I still wanted to take her to the ER to make sure she didn't hit her head to hard and hopefully make sure her cut didn't scar by getting stitches.
After what seemed like forever, someone finally saw her. They put numbing gel on her chin and left for another 30 minutes. Finally, the scary part was here. They took my little girl and strapped her to this board. She was so scared and I don't blame her. However, it was for her own good, b/c she would have been kicking and screaming as they stitched her chin up.
Finally it was all over and we got to go home. By this time it was close to 1:00 in the morning.
We spoke with Angie the next morning and found out that they treated Alexa and Trey like royalty. They gave them free games and they let them play with this bowling ball ramped. I think it's a special piece of equipment for disabled players, but the kids thought it was a blast. Basically you put the ball at the top of the ramp, aim the ramp, and push the ball down. So Alexa's birthday wasn't completely ruined!
